– Fall 2011 to present - After 25 years of service in Regent Square, the owner of the independent Sunoco station at the corner of Braddock and Hutchinson sold the property to Giant Eagle Corporation for the establishment of a GetGo station. Giant Eagle is only rebranding and reimaging the station for the time being, once it has been open for a while, the company will re-assess the site and decide whether and how to reconfigure it.
In its effort to maintain the small-town character of the Regent Square neighborhood and its business district, the RSCA convened a group of interested residents in October 2011 to develop a wish list and vision for the future of the site (click here [.pdf] to see document). In January 2012, the group met with Giant Eagle representatives to share the resulting document (click here [.pdf] to see the minutes from this meeting). The RSCA has also asked Edgewood Council for a meeting to share this document. In addition, the RSCA has been making every effort to communicate the latest information on the site’s redevelopment to the community via its newsletter and a project-specific email list. Residents can send an email to contact@regentsquare-RSCA.org to get on this list.
The RSCA will continue to be involved and to communicate any new developments. To express their questions and opinions to their elected officials and have them become part of the public record, residents should attend Edgewood Borough Council meetings which take place on the first and third Mondays of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Building.
